Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie devoted four days to Lebanese music with a Lebanon Festival that ran from 29 October to 1 November in its Recital Hall and Grand Hall, according to the programme reported by ad-hoc-news.

The festival opened on Thursday with Sanam, described by the organisers as a meeting of rock, electronics, Egyptian classics and Arabic poetry. On Friday, Farah Kaddour and Tilt Trio played music centred on the buzuq, followed by Rayess Bek and Joan Baz with Chayyel, an audiovisual performance drawing on dabke. Saturday brought an oud recital by Charbel Rouhana and a Grand Hall concert by Abeer Nehme, and Tania Saleh closed the festival on Sunday.

The Hamburger Abendblatt reported that Nehme's Saturday concert sold out the Grand Hall, with a Lebanese flag on display and a global audience that she divided into groups so that everyone sang along, in what the paper called a display of the uniting power of music.

The Elbphilharmonie, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and opened in 2017, rises in glass above a former brick warehouse in Hamburg's port. The festival placed Arabic poetry, dabke and the oud inside one of Europe's best-known concert halls.
