Fourteen years on, Wissam al-Hassan's assassination remains unsolved

Politicians recall the intelligence chief killed in a 2012 Beirut car bomb.

✓ Verified against multiple independent sources

Lebanese politicians marked the anniversary of the killing of Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan, the Internal Security Forces intelligence chief, who died with an aide in a car bombing in Ashrafieh, Beirut, on 19 October 2012.

Eight people died and nearly 80 were wounded. At the time he led the Lebanese side of the investigation into the 2005 assassination of Rafic Hariri.

Ahmad al-Hariri said al-Hassan "paid with his blood" to protect Lebanon, and MP Fouad Makhzoumi said his memory spurs adherence to Lebanese sovereignty, MTV Lebanon reported.

No one has been held to account. Lebanese Lobby backs an independent judiciary and calls for the truth in every political assassination.
