Lebanon electricity payment deadline arrives for public bodies
EDL has warned indebted public institutions of power cuts; public hospitals are exempt.
Electricité du Liban’s deadline for public bodies to settle overdue electricity bills arrived on Monday, November 2. The utility had announced that it would disconnect administrations and public institutions that had not paid, while exempting public hospitals.
Nidaa Al Watan reported on Monday that some bodies had paid or arranged repayment and that the utility was still determining which entities had transferred funds. It cited EDL sources as saying cuts would be phased. LBCI reported that the civil aviation authority had agreed to an immediate payment and a schedule for outstanding airport bills. The reports do not establish which institutions have actually been disconnected.
