Lebanon is preparing inspections of slaughterhouses and meat warehouses following an emergency meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the Grand Serail on Monday, November 2. LBCI reported the new measures, while Al Modon independently described the follow-up through its own ministerial sources.

The Lebanese Food Safety Authority will coordinate checks with ministries and security agencies. Unlicensed facilities are also to be surveyed. The action follows laboratory detection of Trichinella parasites in a meat sample from a Beirut restaurant, which authorities closed.

Investigators are still examining where suspected adulteration occurred along the supply chain; the reporting does not establish responsibility. The new inspection measures are a development beyond Sunday’s announcement of the emergency meeting. The photograph shows the Grand Serail in 2007, not Monday’s meeting.
