Army finds 13-metre tunnel in Fanar; one man arrested
No weapons found; sources say it was dug in a search for gold.
The Lebanese Army inspected a tunnel found in Fanar, in the Metn, and said it measures about 13 metres: five vertical and eight horizontal. It held no weapons or military equipment, only several individual pits, according to LBCI.
One suspect in the digging was arrested. LBCI, citing sources, reported the tunnel was allegedly dug in a search for gold; the army says its investigation into the purpose continues.
The discovery had raised concern among residents of Mount Lebanon, Asharq Al-Awsat reported.
