US official confirms strikes near Hormuz as Qeshm report emerges
AP reports a direct official confirmation; Reuters relays separate Wall Street Journal reporting on Qeshm.
An American official told the Associated Press on November 2 that US forces had struck Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the action as defensive and directed against surface-to-air missile threats to US assets.
Separately, Reuters relayed a Wall Street Journal report, citing US officials, that American forces struck Qeshm Island. Reuters said Central Command had not immediately responded. The AP confirmation does not establish that it concerns the same operation. Neither account provides a confirmed casualty toll or establishes a return to full-scale war. The photograph is a 1982 orbital view of Hormuz.
