Uma sessão militar patrocinada pelos EUA entre representantes dos exércitos libanês e israelita realiza-se a 20 de outubro no Comando Central dos EUA, na Flórida, segundo o Asharq Al-Awsat.

O jornal diz que o embaixador Simon Karam chefiará a delegação libanesa e que a agenda se limita a questões operacionais: cessar-fogo, fim das escavadoras e prisioneiros.

O L'Orient-Le Jour escreve que Beirute participa com uma condição principal, sendo a coordenação militar direta o ponto de bloqueio. Segundo o Asharq Al-Awsat, o comandante do Exército, Rodolphe Haykal, rejeita qualquer coordenação direta entre tropas libanesas e unidades israelitas; todo o contacto passa pelo mecanismo do cessar-fogo.
