Judiciary widens probe into explosives seized at Dahr al-Baydar
Investigators are seeking the origin, recipients and purpose of a shipment of more than 500 kg, according to Asharq Al-Awsat.
Lebanon's judiciary has widened its investigation into the explosives shipment intercepted at the Dahr al-Baydar checkpoint on the Bekaa–Beirut highway, according to Asharq Al-Awsat and L'Orient Today.
Military Court Government Commissioner Judge Claude Ghanem returned the files of two detainees to military police for further questioning and ordered security agencies to identify two men known only as Sajed and Zulfiqar. A senior judicial source, who was not named, said preliminary statements indicate one handed over the shipment in the Bekaa and the other was to receive it in Beirut's southern suburbs, and that both detainees claimed ties to Hezbollah. These are allegations at this stage, not court findings.
The shipment is believed to exceed 500 kilograms of explosives packed with metal balls and nails. The source cautioned that proving a security plot would need evidence beyond the seizure itself. Justice Minister Adel Nassar pledged the probe would go to the end, while MPs Sami Gemayel and Ashraf Rifi called for the full network to be uncovered.
